เขาเป็นนักเขียนและนักวาดภาพนิทานเด็กชาวอเมริกันที่มีชื่อเสียงก้องโลก โดยผลงานที่มีชื่อเสียงก็คือหนังสือ Where the Wild Things Are โดยตีพิมพ์ครั้งแรกในปี คศ. 1963 และได้รับความนิยมมาอย่างยาวนานจนถึงปัจจุบันนี้ โดยวันที่ 10 มิถุนายนปีนี้จะเป็นวันครบรอบวันเกิด 85 ปีของเขาครับ

ประวัติของ Maurice Sendak

Maurice Sendak มีชื่อเต็มว่า Maurice Bernard Sendak มีบิดาชื่อ Philip Sendak และมารดาชื่อ Sadie Schindler เขาเกิดเมื่อวันที่ 10 มิถุนายน ปี 1928 ที่บรูคลิน นิวยอร์ก ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา โดยเขาเป็นทั้งจิตรกร นักวาดภาพประกอบ และนักเขียน จบการศึกษาจาก Art Students League of New York โดยผลงานส่วนใหญ่ของเขาจะเป็นพวกนิทานสำหรับเด็ก และหนังสือภาพประกอบ

โดยผลงานที่โดดเด่นของเขาก็คือหนังสือเรื่อง Where the Wild Things Are ที่ตีพิมพ์ในปี 1963 และ In the Night Kitchen ที่ตีพิมพ์ในปี 1970 และรางวัลที่ได้รับก็จะมี Caldecott Medal (ปี 1964, 1974), Hans Christian Andersen Award (ปี 1970), Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal (ปี 1983) และ Astrid Lindgren Award (ปี 2003)

เขาเสียชีวิตวันที่ 8 พฤษภาคม ปี 2012 ที่แดนบูรี คอนเนตติกัต ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา รวมอายุได้ 83 ปี
